*My PCOS Story*

Ever since I could remember, I’ve never had a “normal cycle”. I either had it for 7 days with crucial pain or went months without one. All my friends thought I was lucky going 6 months at a time without one, but instead of having a period, I would get cysts after cysts on my ovaries. I’ve always had stomach pains on and off, so I thought it was the a normal thing for me. I played sports and was active growing up so I didn’t really struggle with being over weight, but never was skinny either. I’m big boned and got a lot of traits from my dad so, I thought my dark coarse hair was part of it. It wasn’t until I was 22 that I noticed (what I now know) my PCOS symptoms getting worse. I went to several different doctors and gynecologist. None of them told me that I had PCOS. Even though my facial hair was obvious, I never had regular cycles, I was exhausted & nauseated all the time, I kept gaining weight rapidly, and I had to drop down to part time at work because I just couldn’t handle it. They kept saying I was healthy, but my hormones are off balance? They put me on several different birth controls because my stomach kept fighting against them. They also put me on metformin and a water pill. Something had to give. So, my husband and I started doing some research. We came across PCOS. Made a doctors appointment, and sure enough, that’s what I had. Finally, we now know what is wrong with me, but had no idea what PCOS really was? We bought a PCOS book off of amazon. I got half way through, and stopped. It was so depressing. I didn’t want to have to be on these medications and have all these symptoms for the rest of my life. So, I did more research and came across the wonderful Katie Humphrey! I watched her 90 days of freedom and I finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel. I got me a book, and wrote down notes from each day. I stepped out on a limb and ordered Insulite Labs. After the first month, I stopped taking all three of my medications. I got my cycle and have had one every month since. I don’t have stomach pains, I’m not nauseated all the time anymore, I have bursts of energy, and I’m back to 5 days a week now 🙂 I started reading Katie Humphreys “Revolution to You” book, and took her 6 week boot camp webinar. I’ve learned so much and am truly grateful for her.
I work out about 4 days a week, and eat so much healthier. It’s a lot of work and dedication, and you fall down sometimes, but you can’t give up. It’s not a fad you go through, its now your new way of living. And it’s going to take time, so if you don’t see results right away it doesn’t mean its not working. Something else that helps me is watching the Biggest Loser’ show and it has been very inspiring.
My eating, life style, and health has changed for the better. Katie has helped me so much through this difficult time in my life, and I just want to pay it forward. I wanted to post this so that maybe one day my story would help someone else.

It’s kinda funny in a way. You want someone to listen and take you seriously about PCOS, but then when you finally get the diagnosed you desperately wanted, you’re like – well, this sucks. That’s why I am a big fan of juicing. I found a NutriBullet on sale, looked up various fruits and vegetables and just started mixing. Some are way better than others. I try to use spinach and an avocado every day. This morning I did spinach, strawberies, and orange, pumpkin seeds, and avocado and ice and when I came back from checking the mail my chihuahua, Omahyra, had her head buried in the glass! And I agree. It is pretty good!

My friend was telling me about the nutrilbullet & I want one really bad. I really want to start juicing at least one day a week. Where’d you find if for sale? 🙂

I found it at Wal Mart, of all places, on sale for $73.00. I was trying to decide between a really good blender, a typical juicer and the NB. I am SO glad I did it. I had only planned to do it once a week or so too – just take a day and juice, but I’ve started having a smoothie in the morning. I do it every morning and I can notice the difference in my moods if I don’t do it.

I need to do some research about the specific fruits and vegetables that help PCOS because right now I am focusing on my skin. I use spinach every morning. That’s always my base ingredient. Yesterday I did spinach, pumpkin seeds, an orange, an avocado and strawberries. And it probably doesn’t sound all that great, but I love avocados. I switch up between avocados and bananas.

I use the large cup usually and if I haven’t put anything dangerous in it, I mix a few teaspoons with the kibble my dogs eat if it’s kibble morning. They eat a rotation diet and I wasn’t sure they’d even like the use – one of them had her entire head in my glass yesterday morning. So they all got some smoothie.

I’ve tried a lot of different combos and I’ve only had a handful that weren’t good, but they weren’t too bad to drink. My favorite fruits and veggies are [lots of] spinach. avocados, carrots, apples, oranges, peaches, pears, strawberries, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, pineapple, cantaloupe, cucumbers, celery, and watermelon so I use mostly fruits. I also use ice sometimes, but mostly I use either water or, on special days, Pellegrino. It gives it a nice bubbly taste.

The interesting thing is that it makes you very aware of what you eat for the rest of the day. You might not have a ton of veggies in the smoothie, but as the day goes on you find yourself making better choices. Slowly but surely you will find yourself not wanting things like ice cream or Pepsi or candy – dried apricots are awesome fo something sweet in between meals. It also puts you in contact with your food more and since it’s fresh, that changes your outlook too. I’ve cut out a lot of meat without really even trying. I’ve lost about 10 pounds so far and I’ve just started each day with a smoothie and let the rest of the day unfold, you know? I find myself naturally making changes,

I absolutely love it and I’d recommend to anyone. I also like giving my dogs fresh food so I can just use any extra to mix with their food. If you get a chance, go for it. I have read some reviews about it breaking after a few uses, but mine hasn’t done that. It’s been wonderful, but even if it did break, if I couldn’t fix it or return it, I would buy another one. I wouldn’t want anything else.

Let me know what you decide! We can swap recipes!

Hey! So, I still haven’t got to get one yet, but I have a portable blender that after you make it, it’s in a cup so you can drink right out of it. The past 2 weeks, I’ve been making me smoothie for breakfast. 1/2 of a small avacado, 1/2 of a banana, 1/2 of an orange, 3 strawberries, one scoop of protein powder, and ice 🙂 And I love it! How has it been going & have you tried any thing different in your smoothies? 🙂

Oh, I am sorry it took me forever! I had a little setback with my OCD and kinda fell out of the juicing habit. I’m taking steps to get back into it now. I love to use spinach as a base. Three good handfuls of spinach, a banana or pear for a bit of sweetness, strawberries, avocados, blue berries, apples, carrots… I’m open to try anything. Hopefully I can get back into the groove and send you some great recipes! How have you been?

I haven’t been able to get on here for awhile either.lol It seems like there is just not enough time in the day! I still have yet got one, but been using my little smoothie maker like crazy! I absolutely love avocados in mine. I’ve been putting half of an avocado, half of an orange, half of a banana and a couple strawberries with ice and either water or almond milk & protein. And I love it! I recently came across a website that has 20 different healthy smoothie recipes, and I’ve had 2 so far. 🙂 I really like it, because it gives how many calories and protein and so forth for each. Even though its an absolute pain counting calories, its one of the only ways I really knuckle down and eat less than what I burn. This past month I’ve had a minor set back with my hormones acting up, but its because I haven’t been eating as healthy as I should nor working out the way I usually do. But, I’m back up and kicking! lol I’m about to run in my first color run next sat! Can’t wait to hear more recipes! Take care 🙂
